Do you post only about your real estate business on Facebook? Are you constantly belligerent in your social media posts?

Don’t fall victim to committing these and other common social media sins, or you might lose a strong following, says blogger Jeanna Martinez.

Martinez, a Sales Associate with RE/MAX Access in Garden Ridge, Texas, posted 12 dos and don’ts for social media on her ActiveRain blog. Here are her tips:

DO
Use pictures and videos to get your message out.
Post relevant, helpful and meaningful content for your target audience.
Share a mix of personal (to a limited extent and within your comfort zone) and business updates.
Engage people in conversations, and pay attention to what your friends/followers are doing. Interact with them!
Educate your followers on how you can help them, and follow through!

DON’T
Use pictures and videos in which you are not completely clothed to get your message out.
Post annoying blurbs about how awesome you are.
Make your Facebook or Twitter feed a constant stream of business-related drivel.
Ignore everyone in the social universe.
Belittle and condescend your audience.
